Raymond Carver, A Small Good Thing

While reading Carver's story, A Smalll Good Thing, I noticed that he used a lot of imagery. He was very descreptive, to the point that it painted the picture. I like how the story was actually interesting and made me want to keep reading. This story related to me a bit, because my older brother was in a accident. Carver used some irony in the story as well.

Death Constant Beyond Love

This rose reminds me of the story, Death Constant Beyond Love, because Senator Onesimo Sanchez always keep it in his room.

Rhinoceros

I consider turning into a rhinoceros as a sense of change.
I admit that I turned into a rhinoceros once, it was back in the year 2011. On April 5th, 2011, my older brother was struck by a charter bus and was dragged 50 feet, causing extreme damage to his lower body. I was scared, and sad at the same time. In the morning of April 6 is when I had turned into a rhinoceros. It was when my older sister called me to confirm that he was no longer with us. I was outrage, there was a war in my world, a battle between my emotions and staying strong. I wanted to yell, I wanted to scream at the lady who was driving the charter bus. My life changed every since that day.
I was once Berenger back in the day. It was during highschool, I was very successful but my parents would critcize me, telling me that I should be more like my older cousin, or like their friend's daughter. I appreciated my work, for being involve in youth council, and staying active in school, but all of that didn't seem enough for them. After a while, I just ignored their comments.

Song Lyrics as Poetry

I consider Adele's, Rolling in the Deep as poetry.  Adele uses the literary device personafication, she uses imagery, and allegory.

There's a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch, it's bringing me out the dark
Finally I can see you crystal clear
Go 'head and sell me out and I'll lay your ship bare
See now I leave with every piece of you
Don't underestimate the things that I will do

There's a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch
And it's bringing me out the dark

The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless
I can't help feeling
We could have had it all
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside of your hand
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it, to the beat
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

Baby, I have no story to be told
But I've heard one on you
And I'm gonna make your head burn
Think of me in the depths of your despair
Make a home down there
As mine sure won't be shared

(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
The scars of your love remind me of us

Spring

I picked this poem because all the other poems were grotesque, and confusing. The poem "Spring" was short and simple. I like the way the author, Gerard M. Hopkins,  describes the season. He creates a lot of imagery, and personaification.

Pablo Neruda - Ode To Clothes

I picked Pablo's "Ode to Clothes", because the ode was about clothes, something that humans utilize everyday of their life.

I liked how Pablo used persona in this poem, by making clothes an individual person. The ode is an extended metaphor, has a lot of imagery, and parallelism.

Robert Frost-Flower-gathering

Flower Gathering

I left you in the morning,
And in the morning glow,
You walked a way beside me
to make me sad to go.
Do You know me in the gloaming,
Gaunt and dusty grey with roaming?
Are you dumb because you know me not,
Or dumb because you know?
All for me?
And not a question
For the faded flowers gay
That could take me from beside you
For the ages of a day?
They are yours, and be the measure
Of their Worth for you to treasure,
The measure of the little while
That I've been long away.

"Flower Gathering" caught my attention the most because of the title. At first I thought this poem was going to be about happy, flowers in a garden, but as I started reading this poem, I pictured something else. The image of my brother's funeral popped up in my head when I read, "I left you in the morning, and in the morning glow, you walked a way beside me, to make me sad to go."As I continued to read the poem I noticed that the author used the literary device persona, the author uses I to indicate a person. Robert Frost also used imagery because I was able to picture a scene, and he also uses apostrophe.
